High-Quality Equipment
We provide helmets, harnesses, ropes, carabiners, and protective gear that are regularly inspected and maintained to meet international safety standards.
Safety Briefing
Before starting, all clients receive a full explanation of techniques, risks, and safe behaviour during the activity. We ensure everyone understands the procedures.
Weather Monitoring
Activities may be rescheduled or cancelled in case of unsafe weather conditions such as rain, wind, lightning, or wet cliffs. Your safety is our top concern.
Controlled Risk
Adventure activities involve natural risks; your guide ensures rope protection, spotting, belay systems, and controlled climbing methods throughout.
Client Requirements
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, please review and comply with these requirements:
Physical Fitness
- A basic level of fitness is required for all activities
- Clients must inform the guide of any health conditions (e.g., injuries, asthma, vertigo)
- Good mobility and balance are important for technical sections
- Please consult your doctor if you have any concerns about your fitness level
Proper Clothing
- Sportswear or hiking clothes (quick-dry materials recommended)
- Closed shoes with good grip (hiking boots or trail shoes)
- Light jacket depending on weather
- Avoid jeans, sandals, or slippery footwear
Mandatory Items
- 2–2.5L water per person
- Snacks/energy bar for sustained energy
- Sunscreen (high SPF recommended)
- Cap or hat for sun protection
- Backpack to carry your items
Age & Participant Rules
- Minimum recommended age: 8+ (varies by activity)
- Minors must be accompanied by an adult
- No alcohol or drugs before or during the activity
- Participants must follow all safety instructions
Follow Guide Instructions
- Rope handling instructions must be followed carefully
- Adhere to climbing rules and safety protocols
- Stay on marked trails at all times
- No overtaking or rushing during technical sections
- Listen to your guide's advice regarding pace and breaks
Difficulties & Risks (To Inform Clients Clearly)
Potential Hazards
Slippery rocks, loose stones, exposed areas with heights, rope climbing sections (technical but controlled), steep trails, and variable weather conditions.
Guide Responsibilities
Your guide is responsible for minimising these risks and ensuring safe progress throughout the activity. They will assess conditions and make safety decisions.
Participation Restrictions
For your safety, clients should not participate if they:
Medical Conditions
Have severe heart or breathing conditions, or are recovering from major injury.
Fear of Heights
Have serious fear of heights (for mountaineering activities with exposed sections).
Pregnancy
Are pregnant (for canyoning or climbing activities due to increased risk).
Liability & Agreement
Before the activity, clients may be asked to:
Fitness Confirmation
Confirm they are physically fit to participate in the chosen activity and have disclosed any relevant health conditions to their guide.
Safety Rules Acceptance
Accept and agree to follow all safety rules outlined by Mauritius Hiking Guide and their certified guides.
Instruction Compliance
Follow guide instructions at all times during the activity. This keeps everyone safe and ensures a smooth adventure experience.
